Mind the potholes!
Our roads seem to get worse every year, with more and deeper potholes. Some are getting so big that they damage cars driving through them – meaning the council has to pay compensation for the damage. In fact, last year Hampshire paid out more compensation than any other local authority – over £106,000. That’s money that could have been used to repair roads, wasted because of council incompetence.
We don’t need patched repairs – we need a proper programme of road repairs and proper resurfacing that means the roads won’t need repairing for years.
And now that we get more heavy rain storms, we are seeing more standing water and flooding thanks to bad drainage and blocked ditches. Hampshire County Council needs a proper roads repair team that fixes all these problems.
