Labour promises 10,000 more police officers
This blog post was written before the Manchester bombing.
Labour is promising 10,000 more police officers on the streets, to reverse Tory police cuts and to reduce crime.
Since 2010, the Tories (with Theresa May as Home Secretary) have cut police funding and we now have 20,000 fewer police officers than there were under the Labour government.
And the latest crime figures show that in 2016, violent crime was rising – robbery up 10%, public order offences up 35% and sexual crimes up 12%.
In the New Forest, there are fewer officers on the beat and police stations have been closed. The funding is so bad that even the Conservative Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire has complained to the government that Hampshire needs more money.
It’s clear that voting Labour is the best way to reduce crime. Our streets will be safer with Labour.
