Jo’s penultimate blog of the campaign
This campaign has been an amazing experience for me. I have met a huge number of new people and listened to a wide range of perspectives on the same issues. I’ve seen the responsibility an MP has and the potential to make a difference for people living in this area.
More than ever I see that the experience I’ve developed over the years would be incredibly useful in being an MP. I am creative, collaborative, dedicated and determined. I have excellent communication skills built through experience of strategic planning, expert advising, professional mentoring and problem solving. But more than all that I believe in people. I believe that people deserve a fair shot at life and that when we all have the opportunity to flourish, we are happier together.
I want to properly fund schools and make them places where children love to learn. I want to support families. Having a strong home life gives us roots and the best life chances. I want to protect the environment: our precious forest and wildlife but also our precious world. I want to live in a society that cares and where everyone can have dignity. From the new Dad spending time with his baby to the student graduating without massive debt, from the young person finding their first job and home to the older person living an independent life.
We are the 5th richest country in the world and we have enough money in our society to make this a reality for everyone, but we need to share it more fairly. The UK has become one of the most unequal countries in the developed world. It doesn’t have to be this way.
